Defined by the rolling prairies in central Illinois, Galesburg provides historical,
cultural and artistic attractions, making it one of the area's must-see destinations.
Since the 1850s the town has been a large railway center for the state. Museums
such as the Discovery Depot Children's Museum and the Galesburg Railroad Museum
provide visitors with the opportunity to learn and experience the culture and
history of this industry. There are numerous outdoor activities to enjoy in
Galesburg including swimming, boating and picnicking in the summer (May- Sept.)
or ice skating, cross-country skiing and tobogganing in the winter (Nov.-March).
A variety of events throughout the year, including the Civil War re-enactment
at Heritage Days in August and Galesburg Railroad Days in June, add to the many
